Harper’s New Monthly Magazine – Launched in 1850 by Harper & Brothers, Harper’s Monthly saw contributions from individuals such as Theodore Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Thomas Nast, John Muir, John Steinbeck, Mark Twain, Kurt Vonnegut and more.

Frank Leslie’s Illustrated – Founded in 1852 and continued to 1922. Frank Leslie picks Joseph Keppler, believing the illustrator would be a good match against Thomas Nast of Harper’s Weekly.

Harper’s Weekly Magazine – Published by Harper & Brothers from 1857 to 1916. During the magazine’s most influential time, Thomas Nast was the head cartoonist.

Puck Magazine – Started in 1876 by Joseph Keppler from Frank Leslie’s. Initially a German-only publication, the magazine added English in 1877. Initially, Keppler was the sole illustrator but he added Frederick Opper, James Wales, Livingston Hopkins, Eugene Zimmerman and Bernard Gilliam to the team.

Judge Magazine – Created in 1881 by artists from Puck. James Wales, Frank Tousey and George Jessop created the magazine which ran until 1947.

The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine – First published in 1881 by the Century Company of New York City and ran until 1930.
